how can white gold and diamonds “tarnish”?

I purchased a pair of white gold and diamond earrings about 4 months ago but shortly after i bought them i noticed they were beginning to look dull, not at all sparkly, you couldn’t eetell they had diaonds at all. I took them to a jewelry store to have the cleaned and they looked just a tiny it better. then i bought some jewelry cleaner and that dd not help at all. yesterday i saw the sae pair of earrings in the display case and they looked a million times better. the sales associate said i should talk to a manager to see if he could help. the manager said he could do nothing to help me ut i wanted to see if anyone had any advice on how to clean my earrings to a make them look good again. thank yo

It seems that your diamond earring coated something oily or else and could not cleaned by common methods. Maybe you can take the diamond out, and use professional jewelry cleanser for the setting and stone, which must be of help as not one jewelry cleanser could clean both the stone and material and jeweler would take care not to harm any one of them
