Did I handle this rudely?

My birthday was last Wednesday, and I went and hung out with my ex-boyfriend today. He got me a really expensive gift for my birthday, and I told him that I couldn’t accept it. I gave it back and told him to take it back, that he shouldn’t buy me things like that. He said it was just a friendly gift, but I would never buy my friend something that expensive (roughly a hundred bucks). Plus, its jewelry. I don’t think its right to accept jewelry from your ex-boyfriend. Basically, I told him to get his money back or give it to his grandma….something like that.

Does that seem rude?
