Why doesn’t American television show more foreign programming?

Where I live in Texas, there are FIVE spanish stations but I’d like to see some German, Italian, French, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Australian, etc. stations.
All those stations that show nothing but info commercials, lose weight commercials and selling junk jewelry and dolls could be turned into stations showing foreign television shows and movies. On American television, it’s as though the rest of the world doesn’t exist except, of course, Spanish television. Why not show German TV also?
There would still be tons of American television for goodness sake. What’s wrong with learning about the rest of the world and seeing what people from other countires are like? Expand your horizons!

America’s top export is entertainment. We are the standard to which the world is generally held, for better or worse. Satellite channels in languages other than Spanish take care of the niche market.

An example: the Italian audience in most specific urban locations is probably not large enough to support a station, and for those like you seeking the mere novelty of watching programming in Greek or French, you probably wouldnt tune in often enough to generate the numbers needed for ad revenue.
