is there a book that will tell you what the markings mean on jewelry?

most markings will be a name or a few intitals engraved on jewelery of all sorts..Would like to know the name of the jeweler that made the piece. For example, I have a ring that has LIND & J.O.A S. possibly a P engraved. I have alot of pieces that I don’t know if they are good pieces or just cheap junk. Many of them do not look at all cheap or fake..Pls help..Thx You

There are a number of books which describe the hallmarks on a piece of jewelry. There isn’t just one which has them all. There two main types of marks. Hallmarks which are indicative of the materials used to make the piece and the Maker’s mark(s) which tells who and sometimes when the piece was made.
