LGBT: What if the mother asks “Why are you dressing like a boy”?
Yes, homophobic parents can suck.
I’m a straight female, but my style of dressing is androgynous. I don’t feel clothes can label me or that I need to wear a dress to prove myself a female. Hey, I don’t even see gender as anything other than an anatomical thing. But I happen to be attracted to males.
ANWAYS: My mother is apt to asking why I dress like a man, or why I don’t wear earrings or jewelry or dresses or skirts… she asks Am I a lesbian? Do I love women? What’s wrong with me?
Don’t get me wrong, she’s not a mean person. Just grew up at a time when homosexuality was looked down upon.
I’m straight. How can I make her understand that it’s just a style? I want to expand it more, and dress more masculinely now. How can I tolerate her questions?
Say “Listen lady. This is what I like to wear and feel comfortable in. Your oppressionist clothing is dragging me down and I want to be free. I don’t fit in perfect littlejewelryy box, my world is bigger than that. I am not gay and to judge me based on my clothing is not fair to me or any other women out there who chooses comfort and functionality over prissy and overdone.”
