My dad wants me to drop the charges I pressed on my brother?

for stealing my mothers jewelry and my jewelry he kicked in my door and stole it from my jewelry box she passes away a year ago and he pawned it for drug money and my brother and I are both 19 and live with my dad, my dad said I better drop the charges and if i dont drop them I will not like the end result I was very close to my mom and i dont understand why he wants me to drop them

you’re family that’s the ultimate betrayal, he’s taken the wrong path and you can’t understand what it’s like to have a drug addiction, it was a horrid thing that he did but he’s blood, you can’t do him like that it WON’T help anything. he needs help and getting him sent to jail isn’t going to help him it’s going to make it worse,I reccomend you get him to move to another state and go to rehab. if you keep him in the same area with the same friends you’ll never be able to help him. i use to have the same problem with my cousin, he stole checks from my grandma, jewlery from my mom, and several other things when he was addicted to heroine. he was in jail several times, he also went thru rehab a few times. none of that helped. rehab would help for a week- 2 at the most then he’d be back with the same old friends doing drugs again. he moved in with his cousin in florida about 4 months ago, now he has a full time job, his own appartment, and he’s very healthy and doing well. if our family would have pressed charges on him he’d still be in jail right now. do the right thing, help him get help, don’t get him in trouble with the law
