Does the magnet test for yellow gold work for white gold?
I read that if you put a magnet to yellow gold and it pulls the jewelry, then it’s fake or plated. Does this test work for white gold as well? Also, are there other ways to spot fake white gold?
Yes, it absolutely does! Real gold, white gold, rose gold, platinum and sterling silver etc., do not have iron in them, so they are not affected by a magnetic field. If you have a piece of jewelry that sticks to a magnet, it has stainless steel or some other iron based metal in it. I’m not sure how else you could tell if white gold is fake, except to take it to a good jeweler.
