Art Deco Engagement Rings – Info

Today jewelry from the Art Deco era is again gaining popularity as brides-to-be are discovering the beauty of Art Deco Engagement Rings.  With their amazing beauty and stunning symmetry, these rings provide an interesting and lovely alternative to the more traditional diamond rings so often used today.

These rings are known for their use of many different metals, including platinum, yellow gold, or white gold.  These metals provide a beautiful contrast to the stones used in these rings.  They also add to the overall design of the rings themselves, instead of just being a carrier for the stones.

The stones in an Art Deco Engagement rings are generally smaller and more in number than traditional engagement rings today.  Instead of the traditional solitaire diamond, art deco engagement rings are usually composed of a smaller gem surrounded by several smaller ones.  The stones are also in cuts less extravagant, using cuts such as Asscher and baguette instead of the fancier Princess or emerald cuts.  These sipler cuts have the ability to draw the eye again to the exquisite design of the ring instead of the stone itself.  Perhaps the most dazzling aspect of these engagement rings, however, is the brilliant colors used.  Stones such as emeralds, coral, rubies, turquoise, and jade were much in demand and provided the unique coloring these rings are so famous for.

Today, rings from this era are available as vintage jewelry, very expensive (costing many thousands of dollars), or they are custom designed at a jewelry shop.  The benefit of designing them at the shop is that couples can customize their own rings, adding extra gems or detailed work such as scrolling, making their engagement rings unique and personal.

Art Deco Engagement Rings are a beautiful alternative to the traditional engagement bands of today.  Look for a rare and costly vintage ring, or visit your local jeweler to design your very own.
