Question about ear piercing?

I am having my ears pierced this week so I can wear some beautiful diamond earrings for my wedding in July. I have never had them pierced before and was wondering if I would be able to take a pair of diamond studs with me as I don’t like the idea of having to wear a pair of cheap studs for 6 weeks

First thing first – please make sure you go to a professional!

Most people will go to somewhere like Claires to get their ears done with a piercing gun, this is not at all a good idea because as well as their staff not having the first idea about piercing and the studs they use not being appropriate material for piercing, the guns are VERY unsafe. Guns cannot be cleaned properly leaving you at risk of infection and hepatitis B, guns do not pierce but shoot blunt metal into the flesh that can cause damage to the flesh, also they cannot be used precisely meaning that you will have uneven piercings.

Going to a professional may cost more but it is worth avoiding the risk – sure many people get their ears done with guns, but that doesn’t mean the risk isn’t still there.

You have to wear appropriate jewelry, the studs they use in professional piercing are titanium to make sure it is clean and no allergic reaction takes place – trust me you don’t want this to happen, I nearly lost my ear the last time I had piercing done with a gun and the cheap studs.

Although it is sometimes a good idea to change the studs in case of swelling with ear piercings this is rarely a problem, it is recommended you keep in the initial studs in for a length of time to promote healing. If you just shove any sort of stud in there you risk the piercing getting infected or a bad reaction to the metal.

Piercing professionals recommend wearing earrings in the newly pierced ears for at least 6 months, and sometimes even a full year. If you have them done properly you can try using your own studs, however you have to make sure that they are fully steralized and suitable for your piercing – it is best to ask the piercer whether-or-not the specific studs you have are going to be suitable, too small or the wrong size could see your ears swelling and the studs being trapped, or the piercing healing too small for other studs in the future.
